Coronavirus: Trump administration says unemployment could reach 20%
Tuesday 17 that the coronavirus outbreak could cause the unemployment rate to skyrocket up to 20% this year.
In March, the US had 3.6% unemployment, the lowest rate in 50 years.
The warning came during a closed-door lunch at the Capitol, in which Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin presented a $ 1 trillion stimulus plan to the White House.
The report made Republicans hitherto reluctant to become much more open to passing a relief law of this magnitude.
This figure represents a disaster of unimaginable proportions for the American economy. At the height of the 2008 financial crisis, for example, unemployment was 10%.
In the Great Depression that followed the stock market crash in 1929, the highest rate was 25%.
