Cuba announces first coronavirus death


The Cuban regime announced on Wednesday, 18, the death of one of the Italian tourists diagnosed with Covid-19,  the disease caused by the new coronavirus . It also announced that three more people had positive results, bringing the total number of confirmed cases on the island to 10.
"Despite the efforts made by the intensive care team (...), the complications of his illness were aggravated causing his death", informed the government through the state press.
The 65-year-old victim was one of four Italian tourists who arrived in  Cuba and showed symptoms of fever, dry cough and chest pain. At first, Cuban doctors said that the evolution of the three confirmed cases was "favorable" and that none were in danger of death.
Italy has become the new epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic. The country has 27,980 confirmed cases and 2,503 deaths.

Three new cases

On Tuesday evening, the molecular biology laboratory of the Provincial Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the province of Villa Clara confirmed the positive diagnosis for coronavirus in three more people (two Cubans and one American).
