Jair Bolsonaro says that if he loses the election, he will pass the "band" and withdraw from politics;
On past occasions, the president has placed conditions to accept the outcome of the dispute;
In an interview, the Chief Executive also admitted to being sorry for speeches during the pandemic.
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Monday (12) that he will pass the presidential “sash” and “withdraw” from politics if he loses this year’s elections. The statements were made in an interview with a podcast aimed at the evangelical audience.
“Make comparisons with other countries, what happens. What do these heads of state have in common where these policies are not working, in their respective countries, and see if you want that or not for Brazil. If that's God's will, I'll continue. If not, we'll pass the lane there and I'll retire, because at my age I have nothing else to do here on Earth if my passage through politics ends on December 31 of this year”, he said.
On past occasions, Bolsonaro claimed that he would only recognize the victory of eventual opponents if there were “clean elections” , although he did not specify what that would be or present evidence of fraud in previous disputes.
According to the latest Ipec poll , released yesterday, the current president is in second place in the electoral race, with 31% of voting intentions. In the lead is former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who rose from 44% to 46%.
