Trump Addresses Republicans This Week

Former US President Donald Trump on Thursday (4/11) gave one of the strongest signals to date that he may run for the presidency of the United States again.

In a speech to Republicans in Sioux City (Iowa), Trump said he "very, very, very likely will do this (run) again" in 2024, the year in which there will be a presidential election.

The speech was delivered at the first of four rallies that are scheduled over five days — all as part of the campaign for Republican candidates in the US congressional elections, which take place on Tuesday of next week.

US President Joe Biden is also traveling the country campaigning for the Democrats, rivals of the Republicans.

Next week, American voters will go to the polls in elections that decide seats in the US Congress and some state governments. This election will set the U.S. political landscape ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

In Thursday's speech, Trump said again that he lost in 2020 because of electoral fraud — something he was never able to prove.

"I ran twice," he said. "I won both times and I did much better the second time than the first, receiving millions more votes in 2020 than I did in 2016. And in doing so, I won far more votes than any incumbent president in our country's history." ."

"I'm going to very, very, very likely do this again. Soon. Get ready."

In fact, Trump won the most votes of all time in the US in 2020 – 72 million – for an incumbent president, but he still ended up losing to Biden, who received 81 million votes.

Biden — who campaigned on Thursday in New Mexico and California — reportedly met with aides to reportedly discuss his 2024 re-election campaign.

Trump has been suggesting for months that he might run again.

Kellyanne Conway, a former Trump adviser, said Thursday at an event in Washington that the former president would "soon announce" his plans.

She praised Trump for resisting the temptation to announce his candidacy for the White House, because that would have diminished the attention paid by voters to Republican candidates in this month's election.

If Trump does confirm his candidacy, he will likely have rivals within his party — such as his former vice president, Mike Pence, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, among others.
