5 things to know Monday

2 explosions in 2 days hit Russian city, 27 dead
Two suicide bombings within 24 hours killed at least 31 people in the southern Russia city Volograd, highlighting the terror threat Russia faces as it prepares to host the Winter Games in six weeks. A bus explosion early Monday killed 14 people, Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry says, a day after a suicide bombing killed at least 17 at a railway station in the city. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they came several months after Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov called for attacks against civilian targets in Russia.
Browns fire head coach Rob Chudzinski after one season
The Cleveland Browns didn't wait until Black Monday to make a head coaching change. In a somewhat surprising move, the Browns dismissed rookie coach Rob Chudzinski on Sunday night, about six hours after Cleveland's season ended with a 20-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns, who were 4-5 at their bye week and on the fringes of the AFC playoff picture, lost their final seven games under Chudzinski and extended their postseason drought to 11 seasons. Today, all eyes are on coaches like Redskins' Mike Shanahan, whose departure from the team has been widely speculated about. Shanahan plans to meet with team owner Daniel Snyder today.
13 states raising pay for minimum-wage workers
The retail-worker strikes that swept the nation in 2013 did not move Congress to raise the minimum wage, but a growing number of states are taking action. The minimum wage will rise in 13 states this week, and as many as 11 states and Washington, D.C., are expected to consider increases in 2014, according to the National Employment Law Project. Approval is likely in more than half of the 11, says NELP policy analyst Jack Temple.

7-time F1 champion in critical condition
Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is in critical condition after undergoing brain surgery following a skiing accident in the French Alps on Sunday, doctors said. The Grenoble University Hospital Center said the retired racing driver arrived at the clinic in a coma and underwent immediate surgery for a serious head trauma. It was not clear whether the 44-year-old Schumacher was still in a coma but the hospital statement, which was signed by a neurosurgeon, an anesthesiologist and Marc Penaud, the hospital's deputy director, said "he remains in a critical condition.
