1. Heat vs. Spurs in the NBA Finals
The Miami Heat face the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday in the NBA Finals. It's the fourth year in a row the Heat have made it to the finals — a rare feat. The next novella in Miami's serial drama begins in Game 1 as the Heat try to become the fourth franchise — and first team since the 2000-02 Lakers — to win three consecutive titles. Legacy talk is front and center for both teams.

2. Canadian police hunt cop killer
Three Royal Canadian Mounted Police are dead and at least two more have been "mortally" wounded in a shooting in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, and a suspect is at large, according to tweets from the police agency.
3. GM to unveil details of Valukas recall probe
General Motors plans to make public Thursday morning details of an internal probe by outside lawyer Anton Valukas, hired by GM to find the failings within the automaker that delayed for more than a decade a recall of faulty ignition switches linked to 13 deaths. Consensus expectations are that the report by Valukas, a former U.S. attorney, will exonerate GM CEO Mary Barra, who took the post Jan. 15. She has said repeatedly she knew nothing about the defective switches until just before the February recall.
4. 2014 MLB Draft starts tonight
The annual MLB first-year player draft begins Thursday night. But though nearly everyone who follows the sport realizes the importance of drafting and developing young players, the draft itself can still flummox both casual and ardent fans. Unlike NFL and NBA teams, MLB clubs select players from both high school and college levels, so the draft draws from potentially far more sources of talent and includes many players that few outside MLB front offices have heard of.
