Report finds most of Gen. X fears lower standard of living during retirement
The majority of Generation X workers — those born between 1965 and 1978 — believe they'll need to save a million dollars or more for retirement, but a study out Thursday reveals most only have $70,000 in retirement savings for their household. The report by the Transamerica Center finds that 83% of members of Generation X are concerned that Social Security won't be there when they're ready to retire, and about third expect a lower standard of living in retirement.
Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit closing in on historic mark
When Petit takes the mound against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, he has the potential to make history. The accomplished pitcher has retired the last 38 batters he has faced — over seven outings — just seven short of the record set in 2009 by Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox. Petit's streak, which he didn't know about until recently, is tied for the sixth longest ever.
FBI investigates JPMorgan hack attack
JPMorgan Chase and at least four other financial institutions were hacked recently in a series of coordinated attacks that resulted in the loss of sensitive data, a federal law enforcement official told USA TODAY. Investigators believe Russian hackers were the source of the attacks. What is less clear is whether the attacks were prompted by U.S. sanctions against the Russian government.
Amazon's third pilot season debuts on Amazon Instant Video
Taking a page out of Netflix's illustrious book, Amazon will enter its third "season" of original programming Thursday debuting five new series for their online streaming service. There are pilots for three half-hour comedies, ranging from Parisian love stories to a coming-of-age tale set in New Jersey, and two dramas, one focusing on the mental breakdown of a judge and the other on a disease that spreads through technology. Time will tell whether these shows will make it to series, following in the footsteps of political comedy Alpha House.
National Day to Fight for Families protesters march to White House, rally across the country
Protesters will stage a series of marches in Washington to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in hopes of sparking nationwide attention for issues facing American families. The group's chief ask will be to stop the deportations of migrants workers and their families. Similar demonstrations will happen all around the country, including protests in Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Phoenix, among others.
