1. President Obama opens up to '60 Minutes' host Steve Kroft
Obama will sit down with 60 Minutes' Steve Kroft on Friday to discuss a number of issues and current affairs. The interview, to be aired Sunday on CBS, comes amid increasing concerns about Islamic State militants and airstrikes in Syria and just a day after Attorney General Eric Holder announced his resignation. Obama and Kroft have a long history on interviews, as the veteran 60 Minutes correspondent was the first to nab one with the president after the 2008 election as well as after the killing of Osama bin Laden, to name a few.
2. It's tee time in Scotland for the Ryder Cup golf tournament
Hold the haggis, go for the putter. Some of golf's best players have been practicing on the green in Perthshire, Scotland, throughout the week, as they prepare for the first round of matches starting Friday. Team USA is facing off against the European team. The tournament will last until Sunday, when the finals rounds are played.
3. Take a bite out of the Big Apple's New York Film Festival
It's time to start popping those corn kernels, as the New York Film Festival opens its week-long festivities starting Friday evening. It will premiere thriller Gone Girl for its audiences, which is expected to make a splash as the acclaimed book hits the screenstarring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. The festival is slated to last throughout the coming week, attracting some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

4. BlackBerry to report second-quarter earnings
The smartphone maker will release its second-quarter earnings before the markets open Friday. Analysts expect the company to report second-quarter revenue of $943 million and a loss of 16 cents per share, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg. On Wednesday, BlackBerry launched the square Passport smartphone, hoping to reinvigorate interest in its mobile lineup.
5. Fifty killed in latest violence to rock China's Xinjiang region
The latest violent clash in China's troubled Xinjiang region, described by authorities as a terrorist attack, was far more deadly than first reported, according to state media accounts.
