CEOs of large companies abandon Trump board
Intel, Merk and Under Armor presidents' ruling was motivated by rising racial tension in the United States
Intel chief executive Brian Krzanich has stepped down from the US Manufacturing Council amid rising racial tension in the country. The executive lamented that the divided political climate is causing problems in the country.
"Many in Washington seem more concerned about attacking anyone who disagrees with them," Krzanich said , without citing directly US President Donald Trump .
Krzanich's resignation from the body, which brings together the country's most important industrialists , came after Saturday's violent clash between white supremacists and pro-minority demonstrators in Charlottesville, Va., Which left one person dead and at least 34 injured. On Monday morning, chief executives of Merck Pharmaceuticals Kenneth Frazier and Under Armor sportswear company Kevin Plank also handed over their seats to the panel.
Trump initially said the incident would have many sides. Criticized for failing to name and criticize intolerant groups, he only decided on Monday to raise the tone by labeling members of the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and white supremacists as "criminals and thugs."
