Leonardo da Vinci's work is sold for $ 450 millions  at auction

Painting 'Salvator Mundi' became the most expensive in history

he painting "Salvator Mundi", attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, became the most expensive work of art in history when it was auctioned for $ 450 million on Wednesday night (15 ) in New York.
The painting of about 500 years depicts Jesus Christ as savior of the world and is the only painting of the Italian genius that belongs to a particular collection. It is estimated to have been painted after 1505, some 15 years before Da Vinci's death - which occurred in 1519.
The piece had already been auctioned in 1958 for "only" $ 10,000 because it was considered that the painting had been made by one of the apprentices of the Italian - and not by him. To this day, experts have doubts about the authorship of the work.
Historians further believe that the painting belonged to the collection of King Charles I in the 1600s, and she returned to "public knowledge" in 2005. And before going to the auction in New York, it belonged to the Russian Dmitry Rybolovlev, who had paid US $ 127.5 million (2013) for the piece.
The Christie's auction house had estimated a minimum value of $ 100 million for the work. As soon as the sale was finalized, cheers were heard among the participants of the auction, but the buyer's name was not announced.
Until yesterday, the most expensive work of art to be auctioned was the "Interchange" picture by Willem De Kooning, sold in September 2015 for $ 300 million.
