Authorities identify sniper that killed 12 people in Virginia Beach

He was 40 years old and has been a municipal official for the past 15 years.


US officials identified Saturday, 1 the , the author of the shots that killed 12 people on Friday, 31, before being killed by police in a municipal building in Virginia Beach on the east coast of the United States.
The man was identified as DeWayne Craddock, a town clerk for 15 years in Virginia Beach, a town of 450,000 people nearly 300 miles from Washington.

The 40-year-old man was heavily armed and in his residence were found other weapons.
Local officials gave the shooter's name only once during an interview, more focused on recalling the 12 fatalities of the attack, seven men and five women, 11 of them city officials. The shooting also left four people seriously injured, who remain hospitalized.
Police have not revealed the shooter's motivation and said the investigation is still ongoing.
