Bill Gates biggest mistake - and it cost $ 400 billion to Microsoft

An oversight has cost Microsoft a loss of more than $ 400 billion. For founder  Bill Gates , his worst mistake at the command of the technology giant was not having created a system for smartphones as strong as Android.

According to him, the market for mobile systems only has another competitor for Apple's iOS. In many industries, there is room for multiple competitors and the small details do not make as much difference as a service business, he says. However, it is not the case of software platforms, in which the smallest differences become the life or death of a new business, he says.
"So, you know, the biggest mistake of all is the mistake I made that madeMicrosoft not be what Android is, [ie] Android is the default phone platform that is not from Apple," he said .
The value of Android, 400 billion dollars, could be from Microsoft instead of belonging to Google. The billionaire spoke of an investment organized by the founders of venture capital firm Village Global, of which he is an investor.
According to him, the other assets of Microsoft are quite strong and are among the leaders in their markets, such as the Office and Windows systems "So we're a leading company. If we hit that system, we'd be the lead company, "Gates lamented.
Windows-based smartphones were released in 2010 but did not have the same success as models running other operating systems. According to Business Insider , the biggest problem was his app store, which was struggling to retain the applications registered.
In spite of the mishaps and losing the dispute with Google by the preferred system in cellulare, Microsoft was not far behind. In April, the company surpassed the $ 1 trillion mark in market value, matching the mark hit by Apple and Amazon.
The company lost the smartphone trolley, both in terms of system and handset production, but is reborn. Five years ago under the command of Indian Satya Nadella, only the third president of a company that is about to celebrate its 44th anniversary, Microsoft has been experiencing one of the biggest transformations in its history. Bets on cloud computing and pay-as-you-go software.
Under his umbrella are also companies such as the LinkedIn social network, the Minecraft game , a new line of laptops and tablets, the Skype Internet video calling service and Github, code repository.
While the giant has lost market share by believing that Windows success would keep it forever, it has embraced innovation in recent years - and has hit the bullpen.
