Pelosi says he has 'enough evidence' for Trump's impeachment
Democratic Party leader in the United States Congress, Nancy Pelosi, said Sunday, 12, that she has "enough evidence" for the impeachment of President Donald Trumpon the eve of a crucial week before the Senate opened the trial of the state chief's ouster process.
"We believe there is enough evidence to unseat the president," the California congresswoman told ABCtelevision.
Pelosi approved on Friday 10 the sending of the indictment against Trump to the Senate next week, paving the way for the impeachment process trial. The Democratic leader confirmed sunday (12) that she will meet her coreligionists on Tuesday to set the timetable.
Republican Trump is the third president in U.S. history who faces impeachment proceedings in Congress. The Democratic opposition accuses the president of incurred abuse of power by asking Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a possible opponent of the president in the upcoming November elections.
The impeachment process has little chance of thriving in the Senate, since Republicans are the majority in this legislative house. "We trust impeachment. And we believe there is enough evidence to dismiss him," said Pelosi, Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives.
Republican and Democratic congressmen face another important issue: the testimony of John Bolton, Trump's former National Security Adviser. Bolton said he is willing to testify at Trump's trial on condition of being summoned by the Senate. But the president said on Friday that he could prevent one of his former advisers from testifying in the Senate using his presidential powers.
