Former deputy gives up on running Republican primaries against Trump

Former US Congressman Joe Walsh gave up on Friday, 7, to challenge Donald Trump in the Republican Party primaries for the presidential election in November. With the decision, only one pre-candidate of the conservative legend remains, besides the New York tycoon: former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld.
"I put an end to my candidacy for the presidency of the United States ," Walsh told American broadcaster CNN, after getting 1.1% of the votes in the Republican primaries in Iowa on Tuesday 4, while Trump won over 97%, and Weld, 1.3%.
But the former pre-candidate did not fail to pin the American president, whom he called "literally, the greatest threat to this country". "Any Democrat would have a better role than [Trump] in the White House," he concluded.
Before Walsh, only one other candidate, former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, had announced the end of his presidential campaign in November.
Trump is extremely popular with voters in his party. According to a survey by the British magazine The Economist with the research institute YouGov, which took place between February 2 and 4, Trump had 88% of the support of the Republican electorate across the country to run for the general elections.
