Coronavirus: '70% of people in Germany will be infected ', says Merkel
German Chancellor Angela Merkel told political allies on Tuesday that up to 70% of people in the country could be infected with the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the Bild newspaper reported . The Germany recorded more than 1,100 cases of infected patients and two deaths, both of which occurred on Monday 9.
"60% to 70% of people in Germany will be infected with the new coronavirus," said Merkel at a meeting of her parliamentary group in the Bundestag, as the German parliament is known. According to Bild , some people present reported that there was silence after the chancellor's statement.
Merkel still does not see the need to adopt economic stimuli to contain the impacts of the outbreak on the German economy. She defended her Health Minister, Jens Spahn, by saying that he has "very well" taken the "main burden" of the epidemic in Germany.
