Prince Harry drew parallels between the treatment given by the British press to his mother, Princess Diana, and his wife, Meghan Markle, in trailers released on Monday (1/3) of a special special interview for presenter Oprah Winfrey .

In two 30-second clips released by the American network CBS, Harry says that he feared that Princess Diana's story was "repeating itself".

Winfrey appears asking Meghan if there was a "breaking point" and if she was "silent or silenced", but the Duchess does not speak in any of the clips.

Prince Harry said earlier that he gave up royal duties in order to protect himself and his family from the "toxic" environment created in the UK by the press.

Harry's late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, resigned the title of His Royal Highness at the time of the Prince of Wales's divorce in August 1996. She died the following year in a car accident in Paris. The driver was driving drunk and the speeding car was being followed by paparazzi on motorcycles when the accident happened.

In the clips of the next TV special, an image of a young Prince Harry with Diana is shown as the duke says, "I can't even imagine what it must have been like for her to go through this process alone all these years ago, because it has been incredibly difficult for both of us - but at least we had each other ".

Harry also said to Oprah: "My biggest concern was history repeating itself".

"For me, I'm really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side."

Winfrey is Meghan's personal friend and attended the couple's wedding in 2018.

Speaking to chat show host James Corden last week, Harry said the couple was "walking away and not giving up" to royalty duties.

He said the situation was "destroying my mental health" and he "did what any husband (or) father would do".

Analysis by Daniela Relph, BBC correspondent on the royal family

These first excerpts from the long-awaited Oprah interview are released to attract us with their dramatic editing and music.

They are a taste of what is to come.

In the released minute, Meghan does not say a word. We will have to wait for your answers.

But the questions Oprah asks her give an indication of annoyance and frustration. Oprah talks about "being silenced" and "surviving".

Harry's speech is about protecting his wife and being able to escape the pressure and tension they felt.

With Oprah, the couple chose a friend to interview them whose style would not be aggressive.

She specializes in getting interviewees to open up. She probably tried to get them to reveal what went wrong inside the palace.

This is what will concern the royal family and the palace staff.

How critical were Harry and Meghan? We'll know when the full interview is broadcast next weekend.
