I LEARNED THIS WITH MY NUTRITIONIST AND TOO GOOD TO BE AWARE
The glucose , also called blood sugar, is the primary source of energy for the brain , muscles and tissues , necessary for all body functions. In fact , glucose is one of the great dynamos nature being a source of almost universal energy for living beings .
Scientists know how the molecule is formed and what it does , but , surprisingly , not yet managed to synthesize it in the laboratory . Only plants can manufacture glucose through the magical mix of sunlight , water and other elements , transferring this energy to other creatures through the food chain . When we eat , the body " breaks" the food into smaller and simpler components that pass through the small intestine and go into the bloodstream . When they reach the blood, these nutrients are transported to the cells throughout the body.
Different foods are broken down into different types of nutrients . Protein breaks down into amino acids , generally used for building and repair of tissues . The fat breaks down into fatty acids, which are mainly stored as energy reserves . Carbohydrates ( including bread and pasta , even fruits and vegetables ) unfold mainly glucose, almost immediately used as energy. To feel good , you need enough glucose in your cells all the time .
However, diabetes occurs when the blood glucose does not follow to the cells , which thus are deprived of energy. This explains why fatigue is one of the main signs of diabetes. And, as you can not enter cells , glucose builds up in the blood . The excess sugar in the blood cause a true destruction in the body. In the short term , for example, excess glucose practically absorbs water from the bloodstream , creating a paradoxical condition in which a person needs to urinate more frequently , although an insatiable thirst . A very large amount of glucose can also impair the ability of leukocytes of the immune system to fight infections , making the person more vulnerable to diseases . Over time , elevated blood glucose levels may lead to serious complications such as injury to nerves , kidneys , eyes, blood vessels , liver and heart.
