Tsunami of violence

The world was shocked when a tsunami killed more than 100,000 people in Indonesia, but the real stunner eh reveals that it is the same amount of people that die in Brazil victims of homicide and accident car accident.

More people than in the Syria civil war.

The data is a major challenge for poverty advocates who claim to be the main cause of crime.

Always considered the generalization of the crime and the fruit of the poorest offensive misery, since most of them eh formed by hardworking and honest people.

Here is the first major impasse that arises for sociologists: the rate of homicides increased along with income, showing that there is something missing in this analysis.

Another point that draws attention eh disarmament.

There was a strong government campaign in the beginning of the last decade, and the Statute of Disarmament was put into practice, despite contrary referendum, making legal sales of guns collapsing.

Regardless of what we saw was an increase in murders during this period.

Mean then that as liberals always said, disarm the lawful citizen not reduce crime.

Gary Bekcer the University of Chicago and winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, I'd say the greatest impunity eh invitation to crime because criminals also compare costs and benefits.

The certainty of punishment eh still the biggest obstacle to crime.

But in Brazil, we prefer to ignore the structural causes and focus on symptoms.

We like to break the thermometer to cure fever.

We love to create laws, as state decrees were enough to solve the evils that beset us.

Invest in infrastructure and supervision it is  much work.

The government needs to spend less and save more, delegate more private initiative so lost opportunity to corruption, cut programs that yield electoral votes and disturbing interest groups.

Much easier to leave the abandoned roads, falling to pieces and simply downloading a law prohibiting any consumption of alcohol by drivers, as if the guilt of so many accidents were the guy who took a glass of wine and taking the wheel.

Equip and train the police and the armed forces, and supervise the borders, invest in new prison and cells and pay decent wages to crime fighters, requires much sacrifice.

Much easier to disarm those who would never commit a crime, but that could possibly defend themselves from bandits.

Breaking the 'intellectuals' and artists can still demonize own police and paint as criminals - victims of society - while murderers under 18 years continue to be recognized, protected by the Statute of Children and Adolescents.

Time to attack the roots of the problem, its structural causes, rather than believing in miracles that sprout in state decrees
