Meghan Markle's father may testify against daughter in lawsuit
Thomas Markle, Meghan's father and with whom she has a difficult relationship, will be able to testify against her daughter in a lawsuit filed by Prince Harry's wife against the Mail on Sunday newspaper for invasion of privacy, British media reported wednesday (15/1).
Based on documents transmitted to the High Court in London, the Conservative newspaper "The Daily Telegraph" published that Thomas Markle is willing to testify against his daughter.
The documents "reveal the deterioration of the relationship" between father and daughter at the time of marriage to Harry in 2018, the newspaper says.
The Dukes of Sussex, who caused an earthquake in the British monarchy last week by announcing they were renouncing their royal duties, sued several British newspapers a few months ago.
One of them is the "Mail on Sunday", criticized by the 38-year-old former American actress for publishing a letter addressed to her father in February.
At the time, Prince Harry, sixth in line with succession, denounced that the vehicle had "omitted paragraphs, some sentences and even words to cover up the lies uttered" against his wife.
After the couple's surprising announcement last week, Meghan returned to Canada, where she spent Christmas with her husband and son Archie.
Queen Elizabeth summoned her son Charles - heir to the throne - and her two grandchildren - Harry and William - for a crisis meeting. In it, the royal family agreed to grant a transitional period for the Dukes of Sussex to withdraw from the spotlight as they wish.
