Acquitted by Senate, Trump contradicts pressure on Ukraine

The President of the United States, Donald Trump , confirmed during an interview on Thursday 13 that he had sent his personal lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, to Ukraine , contradicting his defense in the process that led to his impeachment in the ChSuspicions of abuse of power for Trump to gain political advantage surfaced in September 2019 when a report by an anonymous whistleblower emerged. The text indicated a scheme of exchange of favors during a telephone conversation between the American and the newly elected President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky.
The White House later published a transcript of the conversation. In it, Trump was concerned about the controversial dismissal of a Ukrainian prosecutor and that the Bidens would be involved in this fact. The president ends the call by saying that Giuliani would contact Zelensky.
The investigation led to the impeachment of Trump by the Democratic-dominated House last December. But the American president was acquitted by the Senate in a swift trial, without calling for new witnesses. Just before his acquittal, a draft of the book by former national security adviser John Bolton was leaked to the press. In the text, Bolton said that Trump had directly linked the freezing of financial aid to Ukraine to the Kiev investigation against the Bidens.amber of Deputies and his acquittal by the Senate. .
In an interview with Gerald Speaks podcast , the American president said he did not feel guilty for sending Giuliani to Ukraine and praised the lawyer as being a "crime fighter". In November, Trump had denied sending Giuliani "to do anything" in the Slavic country.
Giuliani was a key player in Congressional investigations against the president on suspicion of abuse of power due to the freezing of millionaire financial aid destined for Ukraine as a means of pressuring the government of that country to investigate the family of the Democratic pre-candidate for president and former Vice President Joe Biden . Trump was also accused of obstruction by Congress for trying to prevent White House officials from testifying.
Trump defended the “use” of the lawyer in the interview, although witnesses in the House said Giuliani had compromised long-standing American foreign policy towards Ukraine.
The witnesses called by the Chamber stated that Giuliani and allies have met with both former officials as to current employees of the Ukrainian government for compromising information about Biden and his son, Hunter.
