Riots leave seven dead and 150 injured in India's capital

At least seven people died and about 150 were injured in clashes between opposing groups in New Delhi , a police official said on Tuesday. The riots even overshadow the first visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to India.
The clashes are the worst in the capital since protests exploded over a new citizenship law two months ago. The trigger for the actions occurred during the weekend, but the violence escalated to fatal cases only on Monday, 24.
A second wave of crimes broke out in various parts of northeastern New Delhi on Tuesday, 25, and reached a few kilometers away from where Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met to talk.
"Seven people, including a Delhi police chief, died," said Anil Mittal, a police officer, adding that about 150 people were injured in Monday's violence.
A fire department official said teams were responding to more than a dozen separate calls related to criminal incidents on Tuesday, when new protests broke out in the city. “We seek police protection, as our vehicles are being prevented from entering the affected areas. The situation is very bleak, ”said the director of the Delhi Fire Department, Atul Garg.
He said the violence has not abated since yesterday, despite the imposition of an emergency law that prohibits any meetings in areas affected by the conflicts. A corporation vehicle was set on fire by protesters and a small number of officers were injured, he added.
Images from local television channels showed huge clouds of smoke rising from a burning tire market, crowds wielding sticks and stones were seen walking the streets in northeastern parts of the city amid new reports of attacks.
“There is still a flow of injured people. There are victims, ”said Rajesh Kalra, additional medical superintendent at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in New Delhi. "There are all kinds of injuries - many from bullets and some from sharp weapons," said Kalra.
