World's oldest man dies at 112
Japanese Chitetsu Watanabe, considered the oldest man in the world , passed away at 112 , Japanese officials announced on Tuesday.
Watanabe, who was born on March 5, 1907 in Niigata, north of Tokyo, died on Sunday in the residence where he lived, located in the same municipality. Less than two weeks ago he had been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest man in the world. There are, however, living women older than Watanabe.
According to the elderly, who had five children, the secret of a long life is "not to be upset and keep a smile on your face". After his death, the longest-lived man in Japan is Issaku Tomoe, 110, according to the agency Jiji Press, it is not yet known whether Tomoe is also the oldest in the world.
Currently, the oldest person on the planet is Japanese Kane Tanaka, who is 117 years old.
